Lauren and Daniel booked me far in advance. When we had our final phone call, I had to scratch my head to remember them. But as soon as we started talking one thing refreshed my memory. They have great taste in music! We came up with a plan to make their wedding amazing and I think we succeeded. Read on to learn all about their special day.
Senate Garage Wedding
Kingston, NY for Lauren & Daniel
By DJ Ben Boylan
Venue
Senate Garage is a gorgeous industrial wedding venue in the Hudson Valley. Originally a garage built in 1921, it has the exposed brick and warehouse feel of the trendiest venues in Brooklyn. The main room can accommodate about 250 people for a seated dinner or 400 standing. Outside there is a large grassy area for cocktail hour. Senate Garage is a great venue for couples looking for a cool Brooklyn vibe away from the city.
Ceremony
Lauren and Daniel chose to have their ceremony outside, right next to the venue. They asked me to provide a mic for their officiant and for a reading from one of their guests. They also asked for me to provide speakers for two of their family members who played the ceremony music. Their uncle played the keyboard and their cousin played the cello. I hooked all of it up and it sounded sweet! Beautiful ceremony.
Special Dances
After a nice outdoor cocktail hour where guests grooved to a custom playlist, everyone headed inside for the reception. Lauren and Daniel didn’t want to do a lot of the more traditional wedding elements, so we skipped a formal intro and went right into the first dance and parent dances.
Lauren and Daniel danced to “I Found You” by Alabama Shakes. Lauren danced with her dad to Paul Simon’s “Father and Daughter” and then with her stepdad to “You’ve Got a Friend In Me” from Toy Story. To finish off the special dances, Daniel and his mom danced to “God Only Knows” by The Beach Boys.
Dinner
During dinner I mixed up a soundtrack of songs that matched Lauren and Daniel’s style in a lot of different genres. 80’s new wave, indie pop, soul and classic rock. We hadn’t planned a dance set until after dinner, but their guests couldn’t wait. Half the room was on the dance floor before the main course even came out. Really awesome.
Speeches
There were three speeches. The first two were from Daniel’s childhood friends and the third was from the maid of honor. They all used my wireless mic and did great. One of “the best men” mentioned how much Daniel liked the music from the movie Grease. So after the speeches were done, I started off the dance portion of this Senate Garage wedding with “You’re the One that I Want.” That packed the dance floor before the chorus started.
Dance Set
Lauren & Daniel's dance set was so fun for me. They had a big dancing crowd who stayed on the dance floor the entire time. They had asked for a good mix of radio hip-hop, DJ sets, and danceable 70's, 80's and 90's jams. Their favorite artists are Prince, David Bowie, Fleetwood Mac, Daft Punk and Robyn. I made sure to hit all of those artists and genres with recognizable songs that made their guests go crazy. Watch the videos for proof!
Thank you Lauren and Daniel for letting me be a part of your amazing
