Greenpoint Loft Wedding
Brooklyn, NY for Allison & Rob
By Ben Boylan
Venue
Greenpoint Loft is a gorgeous 6,000+ sf wedding venue with a roof terrace that boasts Manhattan skyline views. Housed in a pre-ww2 former-factory, it has the quintessential Brooklyn look with antique wooden beams and brick walls. And it's located in the charming Greenpoint neighborhood in Brooklyn. I love DJing there.
Cocktail Hour, Intros and Special Dances
Allison & Rob had their ceremony at a nearby church so their Greenpoint Loft wedding began at cocktail hour. They had a funk band playing at cocktail hour and they were awesome. Many guests took their drinks upstairs to the mezzanine and out onto the roof deck to look at Manhattan.
Once guests were seated for dinner, I began introductions. There was a large wedding party and they came into the room in pairs to the sound of Chic's "Everybody Dance," a great choice. Next I announced the couple to "TSOP" by MFSB and once they reached the middle of the dance floor and their guests stopped cheering, they began their first dance to Barry White's "You're the First, the Last, My Everything."
Allison danced with her dad to Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely" and Rob danced with his mom to "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong. Halfway through the song, Rob's dad and sister joined them. That was awesome.
During dinner there were about 5 speeches. They used my wireless mic and sounded awesome.
Dance Sets
Allison and Rob are really into music with a special love for disco. So there were funky songs interspersed throughout this Greenpoint Loft wedding along with classic rock, pop, and hip-hop. Their guests packed the dance floor from the start of the night until the end. It's fun from time to time to DJ weddings where a lot of older music is played to see guest reactions. This couple's guests were definitely into it.
Ben is an incredible DJ and an even better person. When we were having our intro calls with DJs for our wedding, we encountered a surprising amount of egos. DJs that were only interested in talking about themselves, playing the music they wanted, and not seeming organized enough to execute on wedding day. Ben is none of those things. Ben is experienced playing at a multiple events, not just weddings. Ben is organized and knowledgeable and knows how to get the party going!! All of our guests loved what Ben brought to the wedding, and many people say it was the best wedding dance party ever :) My husband and I are incredibly passionate about music, and we had a very specific vision for this disco/funk dance set that would be our wedding reception. Ben was patient with us as we poured through hundreds of songs, and was more than willing to play the songs we came up with. He was receptive to how important it was to us and didn’t try to insert his opinion but rather always provided super helpful advice and insights as to what gets people dancing. When our songs ran out, Ben came in with great tracks to keep our dance party going into its 3rd hour (they are usually 2ish hours). His tone during announcements was exceptional, and he worked with our vendors with ease. His set up is minimal and speakers plenty loud to fill the large space at Greenpoint Loft. He had wireless mics which were perfect for speeches. He followed up just days after with a recording of our dance set PLUS videos of first dances. Such a cool bonus. When booking wedding vendors it's important that they are great at the task at hand, but my advice is that it's also important that they are genuinely good people. Ben is both of these things, and we can't ever thank you enough!! Contact him asap before he is all booked up!!! - Allison
