Venue
Brooklyn Historical Society is a museum in Brooklyn Heights. It has two rooms for weddings. One is the Great Hall for larger weddings. The other is the smaller Othmer Library. Sabena and Craig chose the Othmer Library for their wedding.
The Othmer Library is a beautiful space to get married in. You'll be surrounded by old books detailing the history of Brooklyn. It fits about 75 for a seated dinner. There is space on the ground floor for cocktail hour. Ceremony, dinner and dancing are all held upstairs in the library.
Ceremony
There was an open space between two rows of tables. This is where Sabena and Craig got married. They were surrounded by a beautiful two story library. Their friend Raymond officiated.
Sabena and Craig's parents walked in to the intro of Kanye West's "Dark Fantasy." I loved that choice. Then Sabena walked in to "Electric Love" by Borns. There was one reading during the ceremony. Everyone used my wireless mic. The couple exited to "One More Time" by Daft Punk.
Intros and First Dance
After their guests were seated for dinner, Sabena and Craig entered the room to "Hold On, I'm Comin" by Sam & Dave. Then they did their first dance to David Bowie's "Heroes." After the first dance, guests enjoyed a delicious dinner.
Reception
During first course there were three planned speeches. When the last person finished, Sabena's mom asked to do a speech. When she finished, Craig's dad asked to do one. So we had five speeches after all. They all used my wireless mic and sounded great.
Between courses we did parent dances. Sabena danced with her dad to "Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac. Craig danced with his mom to Billy Joel's "You're My Home." We followed it up with two dance sets.
Sabena and Craig asked for a wide variety of music including Drake, Fergie, Outkast, Jungle, 90’s R&B and Hip Hop, Calvin Harris and Gnarls Barkley. Guests filled up the small dance floor and they stayed there. The couple chose Florence and the Machine's version of "Stand By Me" for their last song.
Ben was our wedding DJ and I can say that everything about our experience with Ben was incredible! From the time we started discussing the playlist up to the wedding itself, Ben was receptive to our ideas and creative. Together we curated a great event that got our older guests dancing - which was not an easy feat. Would highly recommend Ben for any of your events. He knows how to get people dancing! - Sabena
Thank You Sabena and Craig for letting me be a part of your
