MyMoon Wedding in Brooklyn, NY for Zainab & Ilyas

MyMoon Wedding

Brooklyn, NY for Zainab & Ilyas

by Ben Boylan

Venue

Xia & Eli had their wedding in two locations. The ceremony was held at MyMoon in Brooklyn and the reception at Joya Hall in Queens.

MyMoon is a stylish one stop shop for weddings. Venue, catering and full sound system: they have it all. Joya Hall is a more traditional wedding hall on Woodhaven Boulevard in Rego Park, Queens.

Ceremony

MyMoon has a covered area right outside the venue that is perfect for ceremonies. That is where Xia and Eli chose to get married, surrounded by their families and friends.

They chose "Aaya Laariye" by Meesha Shafi & Naeem Abbas Rufi for both the wedding party processional and the recessional. For Xia's processional we played Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's "Afreen Afreen." It was a beautiful ceremony!

Reception

After the ceremony, guests headed over to Joya Hall in Queens. Soft music was playing as guests entered and helped themselves to a steam table of South Asian food. Once guests had arrived we started introductions. Xia and Eli had a big wedding party so by the time I got to announcing them, their guests were applauding like crazy.

Guests ate and listened to toasts, all done on my wireless mic. For the cake cutting and a special bouquet toss, they requested I play "Merry Go Round of Life" by Joe Hisaishi. Then Xia's college friends did a pretty funny dance for her and Eli that had everyone cracking up and cheering.

Afterwards we started the dance set and I got to play Bollywood, hip-hop, Caribbean, afrobeats, pop and a lot of music that I never heard before. The music, the dresses, the henna, the food, the different cultures... It was awesome!

Thank You Zainab & Ilyas for letting me be a part of your MyMoon wedding!
